Sewing the Past into the Present (SPIP) explores the fluid and ever-evolving nature of memory, shaped continuously by sensory experience and technological mediation. Rooted in the attempt to reconstruct childhood memories of my grandparents' old house, SPIP investigates whether memory can be captured and reimagined through materials and interaction. At its core, the project asks: How can sewing function as a medium of memory? Can tactile engagement serve as a tool to anchor ephemeral experiences?
Acting as a prototype of SPIP, MM's ROOM seeks to bridge the gap between digital and material memory by incorporating sewing an act that carries warmth, tradition, and personal connection. By blending digital interaction with tactile engagement, MM's ROOM demonstrates that memory is not simply something to be remembered but something that can be reshaped, preserved, and shared. It cooperates with SPIP, contribute to discussions on digital nostalgia, material memory, and interactive storytelling, offering new ways to engage with personal and collective histories. SPIP moves between past and present, virtual and physical, inviting players to reflect on their own family memories, the role of technology in nostalgia, and the importance of being present in real life. Memory is more than just a record of the past it is an ongoing, living experience.
