game design, installation design
is an interactive video game that explores the materiality of memory through personal storytelling. Rooted in familial spaces and everyday textures, it invites players to navigate reconstructed memories and reflect on their own connections to family and the subtle ways our experiences are shaped and shared.

Sewing the Past into the Present
Yujing Li
2024-2025
My understanding of memory begins with the textures of my grandparents’ home—wooden furniture warmed by sunlight, patterned fabrics that lined the walls, and the quiet intimacy of everyday routines. These materials, though ordinary, became anchors for my own emotional landscape. Through conversations with family, I realized how our shared experiences had splintered into different versions, shaped by distance, time, and perspective.
Rather than viewing memory as something to be preserved or recreated, I now see it as something I live through—layered, participatory, and in motion. Sewing, for me, is not simply a metaphor, but a method: it allows me to hold memory in my hands, to mend what feels lost.
MM’sROOM Video Game
This exploration of the relationship between memory and self has shaped the development of MM’s ROOM—an interactive video game that reconstructs my personal memories. The project opens a space where players engage not only with my own stories, but also reflect on their own relationships with home, family, and nostalgia.

FaceTime
To deepen this dialogue between the digital and the real, past and present, I created the FaceTime scene. This scene emerged from intimate conversations with my family, which reminded me that memory is not only something to reflect on, but something we are still actively creating. This part of the project is to gently encourage players to reconnect with their loved ones beyond the game, and to cherish presence as a form of remembering.
Memory Quilt
The Memory Quilt was created as an invitation—for others to step into this personal game and leave something of their own. As players contribute their feelings and fragments of memory through sewing—an old-fashioned, home-related practice—the quilt holds these shared experiences, offering fleeting connections that stretch across time, distance, and difference.
